Rank and File always fell more into the Cow Punk category than Rockabilly. But they were one of the more well-known bands as this style of music became popular in the early 80’s. Wikipedia talks about the band’s employment of “a lot of Johnny Cash-style rockabilly guitar lines” as part of their sound.

Their commercial success at the time seemed to equal other bands like the Plimsouls and they could be found playing in the most popular clubs in Southern CA. The self-penned “Rank and File” seems to be one of their most well known songs of time second only to Amanda Ruth. BTW their CDs can still be purchased on AMAZON.COM
